Forensic speaker identification based on spectral moments

چکیده

A new method for doing text-independent speaker identification geared to forensic situations is presented. By analysing ‘isolexemic’ sequences, the method addresses the issues of very short criminal exemplars and the need for open-set identification. An algorithm is given that computes an average spectral shape of the speech to be analysed for each glottal pulse period. Each such spectrum is converted to a probability density function and the first moment (i.e. the mean) and the second moment about the mean (i.e. the variance) are computed. Sequences of moment values are used as the basis for extracting variables that discriminate among speakers. Ten variables are presented all of which have sufficiently high interto intraspeaker variation to be effective discriminators. A case study comprising a ten-speaker database, and ten unknown speakers, is presented. A discriminant analysis is performed and the statistical measurements that result suggest that the method is potentially effective. The report represents work in progress.

Language Independent Speaker Recognition based on pitch measurements

-The significant progress in speaker recognition is by the use of pitch parameters. The accuracy of speaker recognition to a known degree of confidence for forensic tasks is given by the pitch. The experiments performed discriminates an individual and gives the model of a speaker. The analysis is performed on the TIMIT database and the results are 87% effective and are verified by using PRAAT T...

On the use of perceptual Line Spectral pairs Frequencies and higher-order residual moments for Speaker Identification

Conventional Speaker Identification (SI) systems utilise spectral features like Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) or Perceptual Linear Prediction (PLP) as a frontend module. Line Spectral pairs Frequencies (LSF) are popular alternative representation of Linear Prediction Coefficients (LPC). In this paper, an investigation is carried out to extract LSF from perceptually modified speech....

A Bayesian network approach combining pitch and spectral envelope features to reduce channel mismatch in speaker verification and forensic speaker recognition

The aim of this paper is to reduce the effect of mismatch in recording conditions due to the transmission channel and recording device, using conditional dependencies of prosodic and spectral envelope features. The developed system is based on a Bayesian network framework which combines statistical models of the pitch and spectral envelope features. This approach is applied to forensic automati...

Forensic Application of Speaker Identification

This paper describes a forensic application scenario in the speaker recognition domain and explains the techniques required to develop a complete forensic analysis system based on speaker identification. It is presented a standard manner of how Gaussian Mixture Models (GMMs) could be used in order to compute and express identification results in a judicial system. A review of possible technique...

Speaker identification using cepstrum in Kannada language

Speaker identification in forensic cases involves careful estimation of the features that are more specific to speaker. The anatomical differences in vocal tract depict speaker related differences. Cepstrum has been investigated as a possible parameter for speaker identification. Fundamental frequency obtained from cepstral coefficients indirectly depicts the shape and size of vocal tract. In t...
